Painting the Bilges!

Jamie took the motor home across to Norfolk for the weekend so he could help Nick by painting the bilges.

He arrived on Friday evening and went to see Crocus, sending me these latest photos …

We’d had to choose a font for her name on the transom and this Disney one won the vote.  Not traditional I know but it seemed to suit her name.  This is before it was varnished over …

On Saturday morning Jamie presented himself for work and the first grey coat of bilge paint was painted.  He rang me in the evening and said he ached in places he didn’t know existed!  On Sunday he was back again for the second white coat …

Phill joined him on the Saturday and spent most of his time at Norfolk Marine in Hoveton buying or ordering loads of bits and pieces!

On Sunday he also helped with Crocus by cleaning the top of the cabin roof …

It is now only two weeks to Easter and our promised launch day!  Nick was given an Easter Bunny with a label attached saying “Easter is Cancelled”.  Poor bunny was hung by a noose in the workshop!

Last Visit for this Year

Living in Cornwall I have to rely on photos being taken either by my son or by Nick.  The boys took a trip over to Norfolk for the EACC AGM and of course they went to check on progress.  These are the latest pics that I received from them …

Slight Hiccup

I got a message to call in and see Nick as he’d found some bad wood and needed a decision made whether to replace or repair.  In the end it was a no brainer because replacing now would save me money in the long run.  With the hull stripped out it would be much easier to do the work.  In a year or two’s time it would be much more difficult to get at the problem area.

Quite a bit had been done since our last visit …

Looking in on Crocus

I have arrived in Norfolk for a three week holiday in my motor home and with Jamie and Phill here for the weekend we all popped in to see how Crocus was progressing.   She certainly looked different!  Completely stripped out work was progressing …

Poor Crocus is stripped bare!  It’s a good job we have complete faith in Nick or we’d be seriously worried to see her like this.  They always say things have to get worse before they get better and this seems to be the case with Crocus.

Crocus in the Workshop

The old girl has settled in at Nick’s and is coming back into shape.  Work will begin soon on the ribs but in the meantime the new keel size is being worked out according to her sail area.  All Double Dutch to me but I know she is in safe hands and she will be beautiful when finished!  Please forgive me Nick and do please comment if I get anything wrong!!

Well she’s finally back in her home county.  Nick Wiggins sent this photo of her and now begins the long haul of getting her fit for the water next Spring.
